Bristol Tennessee City Schools will be closed tomorrow, Monday, January 20, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

On December 27, 2024, our student information system vendor, PowerSchool, became aware of a cybersecurity incident involving unauthorized access to certain PowerSchool systems. On January 7, 2025, PowerSchool sent a communication to all their customers about the breach, including steps to determine whether our system was compromised. Following the steps within the PowerSchool notification, our BTCS Technology Department conducted a thorough review of our PowerSchool system security logs and internet traffic and concluded that our firewall was not breached; thus, the data on our PowerSchool instance was not compromised.

As we reported earlier, Tennessee High was placed in a Hold while we investigate a situation. As we continue to investigate, we will maintain a Hold for the duration of the school day. A Hold means that students remain in a secure location and continue with classroom instruction. Students may be allowed to move throughout the building in a closely supervised manner.
Tennessee High will dismiss on a regular schedule. We will share additional information with parents this evening.

Out of an abundance of caution, Tennessee High School is in a Hold while we investigate a situation. All students and staff are safe. We will provide additional information as soon as possible. Please know that the safety of our students and staff is our top priority.

BTCS will host the next Flexible Learning Day for students on Monday, January 6, following Christmas Break. If you would like your child to attend, please register now through December 18. https://www.btcs.org/o/btcs/page/flexible-learning-day

Tennessee High School students and staff were relocated to Viking Hall this afternoon due to an unidentified odor in the building. School district representatives in partnership with the Bristol Tennessee Fire Department and gas utility officials responded and determined there was no gas leak. The building was cleared for occupancy, and students will be dismissed on a regular schedule. This afternoon’s LEAPs, chorus, and band activities are canceled. This evening’s basketball games will be held as scheduled.

On December 4, English I & II students will complete EOC testing. All other students will have a remote learning day. These students will have assignments they must complete on Canvas. Lunch will be available for pickup from 11:00 to 11:30 am.

Congratulations to all Viking student-athletes and teams who participated in fall sports for your continued accomplishments on and off the field! athletics.btcs.org/fall2024news

There is plenty of time to plan your "fits" for this year's holiday dress-up days!

As temperatures begin to drop, it's important to stay informed about potential schedule changes! For example, if there's a two-hour delay, school will start two hours later than usual but will dismiss at the regular time. For schedule change procedures and the best ways to stay informed when winter weather hits, go to www.btcs.org/schedulechanges.

Student Council will sponsor a Holiday Homecoming Dance on Saturday, December 14 from 7 to 10 pm in Viking Hall. Along with dancing, there will be lots of other fun activities. The dance is only for THS students, so please be prepared to show your badge for entry.
