Regions Riding Forward Scholarship Essay Contest

Who: Seniors

Where: Any 2 or 4 year college or university

Amount: $3,500 - $5,000 (amount varies)

Deadline: February 28th, 2019

Additional Details: Students interested in this scholarship should compose an essay of 500 words or less addressing the following topics:

a) address how an African-American has been an inspriation in your life, and

b) discuss the contributions of the African-American individual who has served to inspire and motivate you. Essays can be submitted at regions.com/ridingforward

 

Believing in Home Ownership Scholarship

Who: Seniors

Where: Any 2 or 4 year college or university

Amount: $500

Deadline: March 27th, 2019

2019 Student-Views Scholarship Program

Who: Senior
Where: Any 2 or 4 year college or university

Amount: $500 - $4,000 (amount varies)

Deadline: April 22nd, 2019

Additional Details: Students interested in applying for these scholarships should log on to www.student-view.com and complete a 15-20 minutes application survey about colleges in your area. Winners will be awarded via a random drawing of all completed applications. Winners will be announced in May 2019.

 

Furman Scholars

Who: CURRENT juniors (class of 2020)

Where: Furman University

Amount: $20,000 per year

Deadline: April 1st, 2019

Additional Details: Students interested in this scholarship must meet the following requirements:

a) Have a genuine interest in an education in the liberal arts and sciences

b) have a 3.5 + GPA

c) Have scored at least a 29 on the ACT, a 1360 on the SAT or PSAT

d) Be significantly involved in extracurricular activities and community service

e) Demonstrate leadership potential

BMS Dale Earnhardt Jr. Scholarship

Who: Seniors who have completed at least two automotive technology or related courses

Amount: $2088

Where: Any 2 or 4 year college/university

Deadline: March 1st, 2019

Additional Information: Applications can be picked up from Mrs. Slagle in the Counseling Office. One student will be nominated to receive this scholarship.  The BMS Scholarship committee will announce the winner.

Marjorie Watson Mathematics Scholarship

Who: Seniors planning to major in Math

Where: University of Tennessee - Chattanooga

Amount: $5,000 ($2,000 in freshman year, $1,000 sophomore-senior year)

Deadline: March 15th, 2019

Additional Information: Application materials include 1 letter of application, affirming an interest in a math degree. 2 letters of recommendation affirming applicant's math abilities, at least one of which must be from a recent math teacher, ACT scores and high school transcript.  Applications must be mailed to:

The Hart Sisters – Nursing Scholarship

Who: Seniors interested in pursuing a career in nursing who have a 3.5 GPA or higher

Amount: $2,500
Deadline: March 15th, 2019
Additional Information:  This scholarship requires a 250-500 word essay describing your true intent to enter the nursing profession. Answer the following questions; What would this scholarship mean to you? Why have you chosen the nursing field? Include a copy of your resume listing extracurricular activities, leadership ability and community service. Include two letters of recommendations.  Complete applications can be returned to Brittany Slagle in the Counseling Office by the deadline above.

Tennessee Concrete Association Essay Contest

Valkyrie-Thor Theatre Arts Scholarship

Who: Seniors interested in pursuing teacher licensure for the content listed below.
Where: Pellissippi State Community College, Roane State Community College, University of Tennessee - Knoxville or Maryville College

Deadline: February 15th, 2019

Additional Information: This scholarship aims to assist students studying acting, costume design, lighting design, scenic design, directing, stage craft, theatre history, dramatic literature, or theatre studies for teacher licensure. Announcements

The practice SAT, the PSAT, will be given at THS on Wednesday, October 24th during first and second period in the wellness rooms. Any junior interested in taking this college entrance exam please bring $16.00 into the counseling office as soon as possible. The PSAT is the qualifying test that students must take in their junior year to enter the National Merit Scholarship Competitions for college scholarships that will be awarded in 2019. Although the test is aimed at students in the 11th grade, sophomores are encouraged to take it as practice for their junior year. To register please bring cash or a check made out to Tennessee High School into the counseling office as soon as possible. Spaces are limited please don’t hesitate to sign up

Applications for the Summer 2019 Tennessee Governor's Schools

Attention high achieving sophomore and junior students!  The 2019 Tennessee Governor’s School applications have been posted on the TN Department of Education website at https://www.tn.gov/education/instruction/tdoe-governors-schools.html.

Please note that all completed Governor’s school of the Arts applications are due to your counselor by Oct 26th.   This gives counselors time to get your application turned in by the November 9th deadline.

The deadline for all other completed applications to be turned in to your counselor will be November 9th.  This gives your counselors time to have your applications turned in to the appropriate college by the December 1st deadline printed in your application.

Each student needs to print off the appropriate application from the Governor’s school website, complete the appropriate portions of the application, and meet with Mrs. Skeens immediately!!
