Now through October 4, the Civinettes will be collecting non-perishable food items for Backpack Buddies, which is a food program that donates food to underprivileged youth. The food drive is in honor of former THS graduate Anna Cooper. She started the Backpack program at her alma mater of Tennessee Tech University. All donations can be dropped off in Ms. Anderson’s room (1159) and Mrs. Bittinger’s room (3406).

The counseling office will be hosting a Junior Parent Night on Thursday October 17th for all junior parents and students. Erika Adams will be presenting about college, careers, scholarship, etc. This information will prepare your student for his/her senior year and beyond. The meeting will be held in the THS Auditorium from 5:30 until 6:30PM. If you are unable to attend, another Junior Parent Night will be held in January. 

The FAFSA opens on October 1st for this year's seniors. There will be a FAFSA Frenzy/Senior Parent Night on Thursday October 17th at 6:30 PM in auditorium. Erika Adams will be here for a short presentation and to help parents/students to complete the FAFSA. There will be another FAFSA Help Night in January.

Class officer photos and not pictured senior photos will be taken on Friday 9/27/19 during homeroom. If you are a senior and have not had your picture taken for the yearbook, you are encouraged to do so.

Bristol Tennessee Board of Education will meet in a called session on Thursday, September 26, 2019, at 6 p.m. 

College App Week-September 23th through 27th 

Wednesday:  During Viking Time, there will be a presentation for all seniors on college and the ACT.

Find a buddy and wear college rival t-shirts!

Thursday:  Seniors will Pre-Code for ACT during Viking Time.

Students and Teachers wear your college colors!

Friday:  “I Applied”

Chat with the counselors-stop by the counseling office to chat with your counselor about colleges and careers! And while you are here: get your picture made in the “I Applied” photo booth!

Show school spirit by wearing maroon and white and get excited for the next chapter in your education!


Music in the Castle
will be held on Saturday October 5. This is the largest MITC we will have hosted since probably the 80's with 29 competing bands and 3 exhibition bands.

Fall Intersession will be Tuesday October 8th, Wednesday 9th, Thursday 10th. Look for registration forms to go home this week. All forms must be returned by 10/2.

Senior ad deadline has been extended. Senior ads will be accepted until Sept 30, to Mrs. Vickers and until Oct 11, to Jostens. 

SENIORS, Deadline for Oct. 26 ACT is FRIDAY! YIKES! Please consider signing up at ACT.ORG for the October 26 ACT.  College applications need your BEST ACT SCORE!  This test is $52.00, and this score may be a game-changer for you.  We’ll do free ACT Boot Camp from Oct. 21 – Oct. 24. Ask your teachers or counselors how we can help! Juniors, this could be your first ACT:  Saturday, October 26.

ACT Academy is cancelled Wednesday  Oct. 3. 

Are you considering being a leader in Friends of Rachel Club?  See Mrs. Sutherland or Ms. Fleenor with your name.  Think about your leadership skills and your ideas for kindness.

There will be a Memorial Fun Run(3mile)/Walk (1 ½mile) on 10/19/19 in memory of Anna Cooper at White Top Creek Park, 8:30 start time. There will be registration forms in the front office. Pre-registration with donation of $15.00 by 10/2 will guarantee a t-shirt. Donations will benefit Anna’s Back Pack Buddies fund at Tennessee Tech University.

THS Aquavike Color Run will be held on September 28th in the THS Southside parking lot at 10:00am. Entry fee is $10.00. See any Aquavike or the front office for a registration form. The THS class, club, or sport with the highest percentage of participants will receive a pizza/pool party!

Attention all seniors, you may take either the ACT on Oct 15th or the SAT on Oct. 16th. All students are automatically registered to take the ACT.  Seniors wanting to take the SAT must have register in the THS counseling office by Friday 9/13/19.

Yearbooks may be ordered via the THS website under the parent link or jostensyearbooks.com. Any student who orders prior to Sept 27, will receive a free icon.

The practice SAT, the PSAT, will be given at THS on Wednesday, Oct. 16th during first and second period. Any juniors interested in taking this college entrance exam please bring $17.00 into the counseling office as soon as possible. The PSAT is the qualifying test that students must take in their junior year to enter the National Merit Scholarship Competitions for college scholarships that will be awarded in 2021. Although the test is aimed at students in the 11th grade, sophomores are encouraged to take it as practice for their junior year. To register please bring cash or a check made out to Tennessee High School into the counseling office as soon as possible. Spaces are limited please don’t hesitate to sign up. Upon registration students will receive a practice test and further information.

Beta Club invitation letters were sent home to new members the last week of August.  Juniors and seniors with a 93 average who didn’t join last year were invited to join this year.  If you didn’t receive a letter and think you should have, please stop by the library and see Mrs. Sauceman or Ms. Hayes to double-check. Beta Club fees are due by October 1st.  Dues will NOT be accepted after this date. If you have extenuating circumstances, please see Ms. Hayes or Mrs. Sauceman before then.

 

Juniors and Seniors:

ACT BOOT CAMP will occur again October 21-24 and December 9-12. 

Do you want the time of evening ACT BOOT CAMP to be EARLIER?

We’re considering a switch to this time:  5:00 – 7:00 pm….or 5:15 – 7:15 pm. 

Would that be better?  Is it better to stay with the usual 6:00—8:00 pm???

Mrs. Sutherland’s ACT ACADEMY will be taught from 3:00 –4:00 pm on fourteen WONDERFUL Wednesdays in the THS Library after school. It’s FREE. We will PRACTICE ACT questions & discuss all things ACT.  The remaining Wednesday’s are: Sept 21  Oct 16, 23, & 30  Nov. 6, 13, & 27  Dec. 4 & 11

The Viking Motorcycle Club will meet the 2nd and 4th Mondays of the month in Mr. Strickland’s room (3418) during homeroom. Our first meeting will be Monday, Sept. 16th. All are welcome! No motorcycle required.

BTCS is hiring an EA for LEAPs at 3 elementary schools, Vance and THS. Anyone who is 18 and interested please apply online at btcs.org.

Please turn in your Health Information form ASAP, Without the Student Health Information form on file, students will not be administered any mediation including cough drops.

First Priority Club, We are meeting each Wednesday morning from 7:00 – 7:15 a.m. in room 2447, Mrs. Amber Davis’s room# 2447.

FCA will meet after school in the auditorium on Thursdays from 2:45-3:15.

Reminder: A fire can breakout with little or no warning. The more prepared you are, the safer you will be. Emergency supply kits can help you be prepared. Items to keep in your emergency kit include a flashlight, batteries, first aid kit, whistle, phone lists, paper, pencil, water, and non-perishable snacks.

 

·         If you checked out a summer reading book from the THS library, please return it ASAP.

 

·         We will not be able to refund any money lost in the vending machines. If you choose to purchase food or drinks you are taking the risk of losing whatever amount you have inserted in the machines.
