Brad Stubbs
Head Coach
Coach Brad Stubbs was born in Georgia, but spent his high school days
right here in Bristol. Coach Stubbs, one of two former Vikings on the
track coaching staff, graduated in 1998. While attending Tennessee High,
Coach Stubbs competed in both track and football. On the football
field, Coach Stubbs spent time at quarterback, running back, and free
safety. During his football career, he broke many school defensive
records including the most tackles in a season, which he still holds. On
the track, Coach Stubbs was a multi-event athlete, competing in many of
the sprinting events.
After graduating, Coach Stubbs went on to play for
East Tennessee State University where he played free safety, strong safety,
and outside linebacker. He was a three year letterman during his time
there and in his senior year contributed to ETSU's biggest win in years,
a victory over the nation's #1 ranked team, Georgia Southern.
Coach Stubbs spent his final semester at ETSU doing his student
teaching and spending time on the football field here at Tennessee High.
Upon graduating, Coach Stubbs was hired by Volunteer High School, where
he coached for three years. Coach Stubbs finally returned to Bristol in
the summer of 2006 and has since been a part of both the football and
track coaching staffs. He was named the head coach of the track program in the fall of 2020.
Coach Stubbs has been married to his wife, Amy, since 2005. They have
three children, Reagan, Gracie, and Austin. In his time off, Coach
Stubbs enjoys hunting and fishing.

Tom Murrell
Assistant Coach
Coach Murrell was born in Kingsport Tennessee and is a graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School where he first became involved in running. He ran Cross Country and Track at Clemson University and received his Bachelor Degree in Recreation and Parks Administration in 1969. After graduation from Clemson he served two years in the United States Army as a First Lieutenant assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg NC and the 173rd Airborne Division in the Republic of South Viet Nam.
Coach Murrell received his Masters Degree in Physical Education from East Tennessee State University 1982. While at ETSU he served as a Graduate Assistant under Coach Dave Walker. During that time the ETSU Cross Country team finished second in the NCAA Championships and had the individual Champion, Neil Cusack. He served as the Head Cross Country and Track Coach at Tennessee High School from 1974 through 2004. Coach Murrell was selected as the Conference and/or Regional Coach of the Year on multiple occasions. He was also nominated twice for State Coach of the Year honors.
In 2002 Coach Murrell retired from teaching and moved to an assistant position in Track and Field at THS. He continued as Head Cross Country Coach and began work with the American Cancer Society as Director of the Sullivan Co. Relay For Life.
In 2004 Coach Murrell became the Head Cross Country Coach at King and started the first track and field program there in 2005. Before retiring in the spring of 2008 King produced 28 All Americans; 4 individual National Champions and had one Team National Championship top ten finish.
Coach Murrell is married to Linda Morgan and has one daughter, Ashley, who lives in Atlanta. Favorite pastime activities are running and bike riding with Linda and serving as her sous chef.
Amanda Vance
Assistant Coach
Coach Amanda Vance is excited to be back for another
season with the Viking track team.. Coach Vance is in
her second stint at THS. She joined the staff for the 2009 season and led numerous successful athletes. In 2013, Coach Vance graduated from ETSU with her degree in
Special Education and was hired to teach and coach basketball and track
at David Crockett where she spent 3 years, including a stint as the head coach. In the fall of 2017 she
returned to THS where she now teaches Special Education and is the
Transition School to Work Coordinator. Coach Vance also organizes
Adaptive Sports and sponsors the Firecracker Squad. Coach Vance also
coaches basketball at THS . Coach Vance and her husband Josh live with their two
children, Natalie and Weston in Kingsport. She is very excited to see
what's in store for this group of Vikes.
