Anderson PTA Scholarship
Who:
Seniors who have previously attended Anderson Elementary School
Where:
Any 2 or 4 year college or university
Amount: $250
Deadline: May 4th, 2020
Additional Information: This year, the Anderson PTA is offering 3 different scholarships for former students! 2 awards will go to students attending a 4 year college or university. 1 award will go to a student attending a 2 year college or trade school. Where: TCAT or other school to earn a trade certificate

Amount: $500

Mitsui USA Scholarship

Who: Seniors
Where: Austin Peay State University, East Tennessee State University, Middle Tennessee State University, Tennessee State University, Tennessee Technological University, The University of Memphis or within the University of Tennessee system.

Amount: 4 $5,000 scholarships

Deadline: May 31st, 2020

Additional Information: Eligibility guidelines, application materials and selection criteria are available for downloading and printing through the society’s website at https://japanamericasocietyoftennesseeinc.wildapricot.org/page-1075218 Applications must be postmarked no later than May 31, 2020 to be considered by the Scholarship Review Committee.  All applicants will be notified by the second week of July of final award decisions.

Maurine Hawkins Scholarship

Who: Seniors

Where: Carson-Newman, Union University, or UT-Knoxville

Amount: See below.

Deadline: May 1st, 2020

Additional Details: THS is pleased to announce the E. Maurine Hawkins Scholarship which is given in memory of Mrs. Hawkins who was a teacher at THS. Although the value of the scholarship is to be announced after Awards Day, in the past it has been worth a significant amount of money, and it is renewable for 4 years. This scholarship will go to a THS student. To apply for this scholarship, you must attend the University of Tennessee - Knoxville, Union University, or Carson-Newman University. The scholarship committee will select the recipient based on the criteria of extracurricular involvement, academic achievement, and financial need. Applications and supporting materials are due to Brittany Slagle by the deadline above. You may submit all materials in one email to slagleb@btcs.org. I will attach a transcript for you.

PTSA Turtleson Scholarship

Who: Seniors

Where: Any 2 or 4 year college or university

Amount: $1,000

Deadline: May 1st, 2020

Additional Information: Students who are interested in applying for this scholarship should submit their application to Brittany Slagle via email at slagleb@btcs.org by the deadline above. Applications should include a resume detailing accomplishments and accolades and should be accompanied by a 500 word essay addressing the topic of "What Tennessee High Means to You." This essay can detail how THS has shaped you to be who you are today or can detail your experiences up to this point. Applicants should also include a copy of their acceptance letter to the college they will be attending in the fall and information regarding their future plans.


Earline Deweese Smith and Henry T. Smith Memorial Scholarship

Who: Seniors interested in pursuing a career in education

Where: Any 2 or 4 year college or university

Amount: $1,000

Deadline May 1st, 2020

Additional Information: Applicants should EMAIL a copy of your resume, and an essay discussing the topic below. Applicants will need to have one letter of recommendation emailed to Mrs. Slagle by the deadline as well. All components of the application should be emailed to slagleb@btcs.org by the deadline.

Essay: In at least 500 words, explain why you want to be an educator. Essays should be 12pt font, double-spaced.


The Barnes Law Firm Scholarship

Who: Seniors

Where: Any 2 or 4 year college or university

Amount: $1,000

Deadline: June 1st, 2020

Mometrix College Scholarship Contest

Who: Seniors

Where: Any 2 or 4 year college or university

Amount: Varies

Deadline: May 13th, 2020 (12:01 CENTRAL STANDARD TIME)

The Shepherd Scholarship

Who: Seniors with at least a 3.5 GPA

Where: Any 2 or 4 year college or university in the US

Amount: $1,500 per year for up to 4 years

Deadline: May 1st, 2020

Additional Information: Applications can be found online at https://www.grantinterface.com/regionsscholarship/common/logon/aspx  The Access Code is shepherd15. If you have any questions please see Mrs. Slagle in the Counseling Office.

Jeff Byrd Exceeding Expectations Scholarship

Who: Seniors

Where: Any 4 year college or university

Amount: $1000

Deadline: April 30th, 2020

Additional Information: Students who wish to apply for this scholarship should have at least a 2.5 GPA. The application requires two letters of recommendation (1 from a teacher and another from a community member) and an essay. Applications can be picked up from the Scholarship Board in the Counseling Office

October 1, 20192020-21 FAFSA opens for completion at www.fafsa.gov

November 2, 2019- Class of 2020 TN Promise applicants can begin volunteering the required 8 community service hours.

February 1, 2020
- TN Promise FAFSA completion deadline. Students can begin completing the 2020-2021 FAFSA October 1, 2019 at 
www.fafsa.gov. The 2020-2021 FAFSA will be based on 2018 tax information.
